The VoiceofPeople is a progressive Internet press which has reported the field of struggles for independence from foreign forces and for re-unification of North and South Korea since its establishment on May 15, 2000.
The VoiceofPeople is proud to be a true voice for the people and bases itself on the principles of 'independence' and 're-unification', primarily because we believe that it is our mission to answer the call of the upcoming era of independence and re-unification.
In 2002, We took the initiative of reporting the unjust death of two middle school girls, Hyo-Soon and Mi-Sun, victimized by a tank of U.S. army, and succeeded in eliciting public awareness to demand amending the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), which is the unequal agreement between South Korea and U.S.A. about the military facilities and the status of stationed American soldiers in South Korea. For this, we were awarded the 12th Democratic Press Award Grand Prix by the Association of Korean National Press Union in 2002 and the first Human Rights Award in 2003 by Press Center for Human Rights.
A progressive party, the Democratic Labor Party, made into the National Assembly on April 2004, and helped us march our one more step into the new era of progress and re-unification, overcoming conservatism.
However, the mainstream press, which has obligation to report the true voice of the people, still stands by the capital and the power.
The mainstream conservative press has turned its deaf ears to workers' rights to strike and workers' demand for the livelihood rights, and distorted peasants' painful voices in the interest of domestic and international capital. We feel more desperately the necessity of the media who speak for the demands and situation of the people than ever.
Now the VoiceofPeople will play the role.
Even if the conservative press turn its deaf ears to and distort the voice of the people, we'll convey the truth. Always standing by the workers, peasants, and people, we will maintain our identity as an authentic press that wholly speaks for them.
